Meet Maxine, founder and CEO of Pick My Brain, the world’s first knowledge marketplace.
”I wanted to see if people would pay for knowledge and/or conversations with strangers. If they would, maybe we could unlock a new kind of economy. I listed an offer on Airbnb to validate and test the idea. The offer was called "Hang out with a Vancouver Startup Founder," and I invited people to talk to me about the future of work and future of education. I charged $50 to start.
60 people from around the world booked and paid me to have a conversation with me. Not only did I make $3000 for conversing with strangers, I also met my first employer, got my first cheque, and fell in love. Among many other things.
